Look the other way; You’ll enjoy it longer
Written by Aaron on May 29, 2010 – 2:03 am -
So, by now, I think that it’s safe to say that everyone has heard of Jim Calhoun, the eight NCAA violations, and the conclusion of the 15-month investigation into the Huskie men’s basketball program. The question on everyone’s mind–Is anyone actually surprised at these allegations? Further, does anyone not believe every single one of these violation allegations to be true? The sooner we as sports fans realize and understand that college basketball and football are “do-or-die-to-university” businesses, the better. I don’t feel like looking up the exact figures, but these are billion-dollar businesses. And, do you know what often comes from big businesses who deal with less-than-intelligent college students? The answer is sadly corruption. Illegal, disappointing, yet inevitable corruption.
If you are picturing anything in your mind right now besides Penny Hardaway,
Shaquille O’Neal, and Nick Nolte the movie, “Blue Chips,” then you’re a long way from being normal or a true basketball fan, for that matter. Sure, that movie may have taken what goes on in college sports to an extreme, but my humble opinion is they weren’t too far off.
It seems like every single year, the NCAA accuses a big name school of serious violations with regards to recruiting. It’s almost looks like the NCAA is making their way across the country, hopping from one campus to another. And most of the time, the allegations are true. Let me ask you all a question. In your respective field, have you seen business conducted in a less-than-ethical or legal manner? The answer is almost always yes. It’s not rocket science that college coaches with huge pressure to succeed and recruit the best do stuff like this.
I guess what I’m saying is go ahead and count on hearing something like this every single year until the day you die. I have no doubt that one year from now, I will be able to reference this blog post toward a new NCAA scandal. My advice to you would be to just enjoy the sports as they are, and just count on some of your favorite teams and players to get caught up in everything from illegal recruiting, schools paying athlete child support to a baby mama (baby mama’s mama), that new Bentley on 24s to a recruit’s second cousin, etc. It’s going to continue to happen. You know why? Because I guarantee that it’s happening as we speak, at a large number of universities, and will continue to do so.

Selection Sunday Looms Near…
Written by Aaron on March 15, 2009 – 11:18 am -
In just about 4 hours the NCAA selection committee will set the brackets for March Madness. The 65 teams invited will gather around the T.V. and wait to hear their destiny, coaches and fans will follow the idiots over at ESPN to see where there team is projected to go and who’s on the bubble. For some teams, they’re relaxed and are only curious to see what seed and what match up’s lie in waiting for them. For other’s, they will be biting their nails and saying their prayers hoping to burst the bubble and sneak into the tournament. No matter who’s in and who’s out, this has to be one of the most exciting times of the year where everyone in the office is interested in filling out a bracket. Make sure you sign up for our bracket here at playahatin.com – Here’s how you sign up: Go to this linkhttp://tournament.fantasysports.yahoo.com/ and click join a group. Courtney Paris Loves To Eat….
Written by Aaron on March 9, 2009 – 11:03 pm -
Oklahoma Sooners power forward, Courtney Paris made a guarantee that has me scratching my head. The 6′4″ 245 Lb. beast of a basketball player promised fans and school officials that she would deliver a National Championship to the school this year or she would pay back her entire scholarship. It would have made sense if she promised that she could do the Six Foot Sub challenge at Subway, where if you can finish the 6′ sub you get a t-shirt. I could also see her guaranteeing that she will win the Nathan’s Hot Dog eating contest, but I did not see this one coming. I wonder if this is really Oliver Miller trying to get back into basketball, I also wonder if she has any clue that Uconn is still undefeated and very good. Here’s what i think – I think that she knows that she will be a top pick in the upcoming WNBA draft even if she doesn’t win her Sooners a title this year, her $40,000 yearly WNBA salary will surely pay it off.

Pitt Stays Number One for a Day
Written by Brett on February 24, 2009 – 9:40 pm -
Less than one week after Pittsburgh beat UConn to climb back to number one, they lay an egg against the Providence Friars. It was the second win over a number 1 ranked team in Providence history, and it was the second loss as the number one team this year for Pittsburgh. Last time it was Louisville, this time it was the Friars who are trying to claw their way into the big dance. Maybe Pitt was scared to play in the Dunkin’ Donuts Center? Does anyone want to step their game up and hold onto the Number One Spot. They are the sixth number one team to get beat since the beginning of January.
